How Much is a Shot of Grease?

You've probably wondered exactly what the term "a shot of grease" means. Generally, it's one stroke from the grease gun. However, the output, or amount of lubricant dispensed from a grease gun depends on the model: typically 0.1 ounce or 2 to 3 grams.

Here are some general estimates:

  • Manual Grease Gun: A single pump typically dispenses 0.8 to 1.2 cubic centimeters (cc) of grease, which is about 0.8 to 1.2 milliliters (mL) or 0.03 to 0.04 fluid ounces.
  • Pneumatic or Battery-Powered Grease Gun: These can deliver slightly more per shot, usually in the range of 1 to 3 cc (mL) per pump.
  • Bulk Grease Applicators: High-volume grease dispensers can apply more, but they're not usually measured in "shots."

For accuracy, it's a good idea to calibrate your grease guns by measuring the amount of grease output using a scale. To get expert advice on everything related to grease analysis, oil analysis and training, fill out the form below; visit https://testoil.com/company/contact-us/; call 216-251-2510; or email sales@testoil.com.
